take you on a journey through contemporary and traditional art in Ipswich.

Mural by David W Houghton on Ipswich City Uniting Church

There’s also galleries and studios around the city for you to explore… The Ipswich Art Gallery is an incredible regional gallery that gets amazing national touring exhibitions for adults and children thanks to its dedicated children’s gallery. The Ipswich Art Gallery attained Best of Queensland status last year. Starr Fine Art Atelier is a workspace on Brisbane Street where Starr Art creations come to life. You can see her paintings, pottery, tea range and more in the studio/shop space and secure your own piece of art. Open on weekends and by appointment. Arttime Supplies in the Ipswich CBD has a dedicated exhibition space and classroom inside. Arttime also sells art supplies, art and artisan products.

We’ll start with the Street Art Trail featuring 13 murals (find a map of the locations at Discoveripswich.com.au/streetart). On the trail you’ll find The Unveiling by Gus Eagleton in Icon Alley and Distant Country by Rachael Sarra along East Street on a wall at the Ipswich Health Plaza. A beautiful mural of blue fairy wrens by David W Houghton can be found on the side of the Ipswich City Uniting Church along Ellenborough Street. Head to Tulmur Place to see public art installations created by Lincoln Austin, Kim Ah Sam and Kyra Manktelow that include hanging fish traps, a family of platypus, a mural of Indigenous trade routes and a large sculpture of Ipswich’s floral emblem which lights up at night.

Banshees Bar & Art Space

Then there’s quirky and eclectic spaces like Banshees Bar & Art Space , a bar in the CBD that features local and touring art on its walls. Another space to visit is Julesart Studio and Gallery . Jules runs art classes from the Dinmore studio, her paintings and ceramics line the gallery space and are for sale. Open by appointment. At the Sip ‘n’ Dip studio in Goodna you’ll find art and craft by local makers, you can even take a class in painting, resin and jewellery making.
