HOYTS have moved in to the first floor of the Nicholas Street Venue building, with preparations well underway for the first movie screening later this year. Scaffolding removed in June provided a peek of the building’s beautiful façade made of more than 12,000 bricks. The rejuvenation of Ipswich’s city heart is approaching an exciting phase with the Hotel Commonwealth and Nicholas Street Venue building both preparing to welcome their first patrons in spring. Council’s construction crews called ‘tools down’ for the last time on the restoration and expansion of the Hotel Commonwealth early in winter. With safety screens removed in June, passersby were provided a sneak peek of newly tiled frontage and entry while inside, a new amenities block and extended footprint towards the river across three levels was all being finalised to hand over to hotel manager, AusHotels.
