BANGARRA DANCE THEATRE
Waru – journey of the small turtle Under the star-lit skies of the Torres Strait, a green turtle returns to her birth beach as nesting season begins, welcoming a new generation, including our little turtle friend, Migi. In Bangarra’s first children’s work, follow Migi’s journey of discovery and survival. This contemporary saltwater Lagaw Kazil (Island Children) story, inspired by the green turtle’s totemic system, Waru – journey of the small turtle, is an interactive introduction to Torres Strait Islander culture and dance for 3–7 year-olds. Created by Stephen Page, Hunter Page-Lochard, and Bangarra alumni Sani Townson and Elma Kris, Waru offers teachers, parents and caregivers a chance to discuss climate change, environmental care and traditional values of respect and reciprocity.
