Ipswich in Summer 2024-2025

Be wildlifesafe

for summer This time of year you may find wildlife needing help – but it is important to stay safe!

FLYING FOXES Summer brings an influx of migrating flying foxes as they follow the seasonal flowering of native trees, such as eucalypts. Flying foxes are not able to sweat, so they are prone to heat stress and can die in heatwaves. WHAT TO LOOK FOR If flying foxes are low in trees or on the ground, they are likely unwell. WHAT TO DO Never touch a flying fox! Call Bat Conservation and Rescue QLD: 0488 228 134 . LORIKEETS Lorikeets are a familiar sight (and sound) of summer. Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome peaks during the summer months, with thousands of birds needing specialised care each year. The cause of the disease is unknown. WHAT TO LOOK FOR Lorikeets that are unable to fly with varying degrees of paralysis. WHAT TO DO Call RSPCA’s hotline: 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) .
