Mel Buttle

Mel Buttle is quickly becoming a household name in the Australian comedy scene, with her relatable and witty performances. Following some successful gigs, Buttle is set to bring her show to Ipswich, promising audiences a fun-filled evening of true stories. In a recent interview, Buttle shared that her stories are all autobiographical and that she tells no lies on stage. Ipswich, she says, will definitely get a mention. While her alter ego ‘Lyn’ has gained a significant following on TikTok, Buttle explained that Lyn won’t be making an appearance in her live show. However, she does have a story about her mother, who is very similar to Lyn. Speaking about the inspiration behind Lyn, Buttle revealed that the character was a creation of the COVID-19 pandemic. With time in quarantine, she needed a creative outlet and decided to make the Lyn videos as practice. Social media has been a great platform for Buttle to reach new fans, with TikTok helping to build her following. When asked what people find most entertaining about her sketches and comedy, Buttle believes that they are universal in many ways. People can often see themselves or someone they know in her stories, making them all the more relatable. Performing to a home crowd in Queensland is always a special experience for Buttle. She explained that she has a shorthand with Queensland audiences, making it easier to connect with them on a personal level. Whether it’s making a reference to Stefan or simply performing in her hometown, Buttle always cherishes the experience and the memorable shows that come with it.

Buttle’s comedic journey has been influenced by some of Australia’s most iconic comedians, including her friend Anne Edmonds, Kath and Kim, Full Frontal, Lano and Woodley, The Golden Girls, Denise Scott and Judith Lucy. She looks up to Edmonds for taking risks and pushing boundaries, admiring her as one of the funniest people in Australia today. As Buttle continues to make her mark in the Australian comedy scene, audiences can look forward to an evening of relatable and hilarious stories.
