Australian musician Eric Weideman, front man of the band 1927, is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. The band, known for hits such as “That’s When I Think of You” and “If I Could,” is drawing in new audiences, with more men attending their shows than during the band’s heyday in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Weideman attributes this fresh energy to the band’s solid live performances, which allow for experimentation and spontaneity. 1927 formed in the late ‘80s and quickly achieved success with their debut album ...ish and its hit singles. However, after a few more albums, in-fighting and financial stress led to the band’s disbandment. In the late 2000s, a booking agent suggested that there was still demand for the band’s music, prompting Weideman to reunite with 1927 and hit the road once again. Since then, the band has been touring consistently and has found success with a new generation of fans. Weideman is happy to continue performing the band’s classic hits, including “If I Could,” despite having played them countless times over the years. He notes that the energy and love from the audience makes it feel fresh every time. In addition to the classic hits, the band also performs newer material from their album Generation-i. Weideman encourages his bandmates to bring their own flavour to the songs during live performances, allowing for a unique experience each time. He admits that live music is not about perfection, but about the feeling it generates in both the

performers and the audience. While Weideman is happy to be home with his wife and cats, he still loves touring and performing live. He believes that audiences will be pleasantly surprised by the band’s current line- up and performance style, which is different from their earlier days.
