The refurbished Redbank Plaza Library is jam-packed with new features, more space and an Ipswich Libraries first. Renovations on the library were completed earlier this year and include a new children’s area, bespoke shelving and a “Bub Hub” internet station. This Ipswich Libraries first allows carers of small children to browse the internet while their child plays safely in an integrated play area. The improvements ensure the library is an even more welcoming and useful space for everyone in our community. HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW-LOOK REDBANK PLAZA LIBRARY?
New-look children’s area at Redbank Plaza Library
As Ipswich grows at unprecedented rates, council is committed to providing infrastructure that keeps pace with the times and our growth. The Redbank Plaza Library is a treasured community institution with more than 2,800 visits per month. This will no doubt increase over the coming years, particularly given the growth of Collingwood Park, Goodna, Redbank, Redbank Plains and Bellbird Park.

SUPERCARS AND IPSWICH CUP TO HEAT UP WINTER WITH COUNCIL SUPPORT
Council is sponsoring the 2026 Ipswich Cup, attended by almost 13,000 people last year.
The hottest tickets this winter will be in Ipswich with council backing two of the city’s most iconic events: Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 and the Ipswich Cup. Council is providing up to $50,000 in funding for the Supercars and $25,000 for the Ipswich Cup, a win for the city’s tourism, events and hospitality industries. Supercars returned to Queensland Raceway in Willowbank last year for the first time since 2019, bringing excitement to the city. This year’s event will run from
21 to 23 August. The historic Ipswich Cup remains the highest attended event of the Queensland Racing Winter Carnival and will be held on 20 June this year. It attracts about 13,000 people with more than half coming from outside Ipswich. The Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 and Ipswich Cup highlight Ipswich’s status as a major events city.

A treasure trove of council history is now available to new generations of residents, with historical council meeting minutes digitised from the very start of the city onwards. On 3 March 1860, the Municipality of Ipswich was proclaimed in the Queensland Government Gazette. Now residents, historians and anyone curious about the city’s rich history can read the meeting minutes from the Ipswich Municipal Council from 1860 to 1893 on council’s interactive archive website Picture Ipswich. In one of the very first meetings of the new city, the then recently-elected Mayor John Murphy and Aldermen applied to DECADES OF IPSWICH HISTORY UNLOCKED WITH DIGITISATION
Ipswich Municipal Council Minutes from 1860.
the Queensland Surveyor General for a map of the town to be made, and agreed to petition his Excellency the Governor for £3,500 toward building a bridge between Ipswich and North Ipswich. The new councillors also petitioned his Excellency the Governor for £5,000 toward repairing the public highway. These early decisions, representing a population of 3,601, are similar to the work Ipswich’s elected representatives do today, representing 275,000 residents.
