Racehorse Hotel , the huge sports bar, complete with massive screen at this Booval hotel, has earned a reputation for hosting some pretty cool acts and events throughout the year. Birds of Tokyo, Sheppard, The Angels, The Superjesus, Pseudo Echo, The Living End and Grinspoon have all played here, to name just a few. Meanwhile, in the Ipswich CBD, Banshees Bar & Artspace boasts an eclectic line-up of touring and local musicians playing mostly original work. This venue, with a quirky fit-out – including seating from an old bus lining the walls – double as an art space. It is a true supporter and incubator of the city’s vibrant art scene. Studio 188 is a converted art deco church in the heritage Top of Town precinct and offers up regular jazz sessions and guest musicians covering a range of genres while the Ipswich Civic Centre is where you’ll find large musical productions and concerts throughout the year.
