Spicers Hidden Vale “Beautiful Spot. We will definitely be back and bringing other friends as well for a great group get together.” TripAdvisor Traveller Cynmar6061, 18 October 2019
Day tripping to Rosewood
Jump in the car and hit the highway 20km west of Ipswich to find the charming town of Rosewood. This vibrant country town has lots of charm and is a great place for RV travellers to stop and explore as the entire town has been declared RV Friendly by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia. The Showgrounds offer pet friendly camping sites, 16 powered with water and drainage, and 50 unpowered for tents, camper vans, caravans and motorhomes. In the main street of town (John St) be sure to check out Johnston Park and the shopping precinct which includes Kaysuelle Fashions. Kaysuelle Fashions has a rustic ambience with beautiful displays of clothing, accessories, shoes and jewellery. Take a walk around the corner to St Brigid’s Catholic Church on Matthew St. It’s the largest timber church in Queensland and was opened in 1910. Make sure to go inside as the interior is stunning with stained glass windows depicting female saints, murals and a pressed metal ceiling.
The Rosewood Hotel is also of note, the two- storey building was rebuilt after a fire in 1914 and is said to be haunted by a few spirits – while the hotel is no longer serving brews you can find one at the Royal George Hotel. There has been a Royal George Hotel in Rosewood since the 1890s, and while the original building was damaged by fire in 1933, you can still find the hitching rings on verandah posts outside. The first railway in Queensland runs through Rosewood, it was built in 1865 from Ipswich to Grandchester. Grandchester is a stone’s throw away – 15km from Rosewood – and is home to luxurious resort Spicers Hidden Vale . Their award winning Homage Restaurant is definitely worth the extra few kilometres, Homage is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week – bookings are essential. And it only costs $10 for a one day pass to explore the 110km of trails at Hidden Vale Adventure Park next door.
