It replaces a two-decade old planning scheme with a contemporary, fit-for- purpose scheme that will better allow Ipswich to respond to growth over the next 20 years. The Ipswich City Plan 2025 will deliver increased diversity of housing, helping boost citywide stock from 92,700 homes to 192,400 across the life of the plan, putting downward pressure on home prices and helping address the housing shortage, homelessness and overcrowding. Almost 100,000 people were engaged during the community consultation phase PAVES WAY FOR 100,000 HOMES OVER 20 YEARS NEW IPSWICH CITY PLAN

The Ipswich City Plan 2025 came into effect from 1 July 2025.

Ipswich is set to remain a stronghold of housing affordability with a new plan to unlock construction of 100,000 homes across the next 20 years. The Ipswich City Plan 2025, which came into effect on 1 July 2025, tackles housing delivery head on to cater for a population expected to double to more than half a million by 2046. The plan also includes the new Local Government Infrastructure Plan to drive infrastructure needed to support growth. The new planning scheme will allow Ipswich, as one of Australia’s fastest growing communities, to capitalise on the opportunities and address the challenges that come with rapid growth.

Ipswich CITY PLAN

2025 Thinking about a second dwelling on your property? To help meet the growing demand for diverse and affordable housing, council introduced new opportunities on 1 July 2025, to encourage Secondary Dwellings and Dual Occupancies in established suburban residential areas. These housing options offer flexible living arrangements that can support extended families, provide rental opportunities or simply make use of underutilised residential land. To make it easier for the community, council has removed the requirement for planning approval in most instances where a Secondary Dwelling or Dual Occupancy is proposed. This allows more people to call Ipswich home whilst protecting what we value about our established suburbs.

Your options: A Secondary Dwelling is a smaller dwelling on the same lot as a primary dwelling (e.g. a granny flat). Any person/s can occupy the Secondary Dwelling. It cannot be separately titled. A Dual Occupancy means two dwellings on one lot, with no requirement for one to be subordinate to the other. They may be attached (e.g. a duplex) or detached, and can be strata titled. The new Ipswich City Plan 2025 allows a generous approach to the size of a second dwelling based on the size of the property. Refer to the table below for the Gross Floor Area (GFA) allowable, without a planning approval.

There are a number of requirements that need to be met, such as setbacks, building heights and car parking. Building and plumbing approvals are still required for any new building works.

canteen and food preparation area, to cater for all community sporting clubs that use the facility. The clubhouse has incorporated sustainable initiatives including solar cells and rainwater harvesting tanks. It also features unisex toilets, a medical room and cleaners’ room. It is expected to be used by a large range of local sporting clubs and codes. It will also service multiple existing sports fields and courts and support organised sporting groups. The facility is also fully accessible for people with a disability. Externally, upgrades include concrete terraced seating and pathways, separate storage bays, landscaping and turf around the perimeter, a covered walkway and relocation of the existing shelters.

Ipswich clubs are benefiting with the completion of a new clubhouse at Silver Jubilee Park. The Australian Government continues to partner with local governments across Queensland to get high-priority local community infrastructure off the ground – with construction of the Silver Jubilee Sports Facility clubhouse at Spring Mountain a recent example. The more than $3.5 million project delivered a new clubhouse and amenities, benefiting new and regular user groups, community users and schools. This was supported by more than $1.97 million from the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and $1.55 million from Ipswich City Council. Situated at the centre of the sports grounds, the new building includes a club room, four change rooms and amenities, referees’ and officials’ rooms, a commercial grade kitchen, as well as a

IPSWICH ECONOMY BOOMS AS IT BURSTS THROUGH $15 BILLION MARK

The Ipswich economy continues to go from strength to strength.

That target has been smashed already with 95,532 jobs recorded in 2024. The city has experienced a $2.4 billion increase in GRP over the past three years. That is fantastic news for a region which has faced some tough economic challenges in recent times. GRP is a valuable indicator of an area’s level of investment attraction and sustained growth. It is the amount of region’s wealth which is generated by businesses, organisations and individuals working in the area.

The Ipswich economy is defying state, national and international trends with more jobs than ever before and a booming financial bottom line. The city’s Gross Regional Product (GRP) – which measures the total value of goods and services produced in the region – has broken through the $15 billion mark for the first time in history, according to latest economic data. The Ipswich economy is growing at a faster rate than Queensland’s and Australia’s, putting the city in a strong position for years ahead. Economically, Ipswich continues to punch well above its weight.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favourite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, presented by Fusion Arts Inc. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant! For more information visit Ipswichciviccentre.com.au/whats-on

ACTIVE AND HEALTHY? YES WE ARE!

There are many activities on offer through council’s Active and Healthy program.

Almost 90 per cent used the Active and Healthy app to book classes, with the feedback showing the app to be easy to use and navigate. The Active and Healthy program is a direct outcome and delivery action of the Ipswich Community Development Strategy and the Active Ipswich Strategy 2032. In 2024, it featured 40 weekly activities, 18 nutrition workshops and 131 Active Kids school holiday sessions, including Learn 2 Ride sessions.

Ipswich is making big strides in healthy living, with recent results showing almost 30,000 residents took part in Active and Healthy programs in 2024. The free and low-cost activities range from exercise classes to healthy eating workshops, for residents of all ages and fitness levels. The latest survey of the program shows that 79 per cent of participants identified improvements in their physical health, while 64 per cent said their mental health had improved. Overall, participants gave our programs an average of 4.36 out of 5.

STRIDES MADE IN INVASIVE WEED MANAGEMENT

The spider excavator machine moving down slope.

The spider’s unique design allows it to traverse steep terrain and enter shallow water bodies, making it ideal for challenging environments like the pond at Viewpoint Drive. Treatment was also carried out at the pond near 31 Vistula Circuit Reserve, where council deployed an aquatic weed harvester to remove a dense mat of salvinia that had formed on the water’s surface.

More than 80 tonnes of the invasive weed salvinia has been removed from two key waterways in Ipswich as part of a coordinated approach by Ipswich City Council and developer Stockland. Salvinia is a highly invasive aquatic weed that is capable of rapid growth in favourable conditions, in some cases, doubling in size overnight. Prolonged wet weather can contribute to the growth of salvinia and reduce the effectiveness of growth management measures. In a council-first trial, specialist equipment known as a ‘spider excavator’ was deployed to remove salvinia from a hard-to-access pond at 9000 Viewpoint Drive in Springfield Lakes.

From the breakout success of his debut single Lullabye feat. Akacia, which clocked over 200,000 plays in its first month, proud First Nations electronic artist Moss has quickly carved a name for himself in Australia and beyond. With support from global heavyweights like Marshmello, Yellow Claw and Jauz, and a home at October Records, Moss brings cinematic, bass-heavy production with emotional intensity . His track Sabre Teeth – which won triple j Unearthed’s DIY Supergroup competition and hit #1 on their charts – led to an official release featuring Genesis Owusu . In 2023, Moss reimagined Solid Rock with Goanna, Tasman Keith and William Barton , earning major industry attention and becoming the anthem for the NRL’s Indigenous Round and Brisbane Riverfire. His 2024 single Strictly 4 Tha with UK rap icon Example , released via Monstercat, earned nearly half a million streams and saw the duo tour nationally. On stage, Moss has electrified lineups at Wildlands, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Ability Fest and more, while also being selected by Ableton for their Live 11 showcase. Supporting Moss is Scraps – the ‘dehydrated disco’ project of Meanjin/Brisbane producer Laura Hill. Think cubist synth-pop, acid ballads and echo-laced storytelling. Charlie, Elsa and Fay take you on a musical journey back to 1940’s post war Perth. Against a backdrop of curfews and the fear of arrest for consorting, white and black manage to form their own club. For a night they can forget their worries and experience rare happy times singing, dancing, listening to music and with a little luck… romance. Forty years on, as the club faces demolition, our three characters meet once again to stage a musical reunion and protest in an attempt to save their old stomping ground. As the trio reflects upon loves lost and found, old arguments and alliances resurface. Dark secrets and ghosts that have lingered for more than half a century are revealed, and we discover that reconciliation is more than saying sorry. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body.
