Construction of the $80 million Brisbane Lions new stadium at Springfield Central is progressing well, with the stadium expected to be ready for its first event from November. The facility will not only be the new home of the Brisbane Lions but will also provide Ipswich with exceptional sporting facilities and boost the region’s economic potential. The boutique stadium, training and administration centre will be home of the Brisbane Lions’ champion men’s and women’s teams and provide state-of- the-art facilities for a variety of local sports, clubs and the community. As the region prepares for Brisbane 2032, the timely construction of this complex will enable Ipswich to host sporting events during the Olympic Games. Council has invested $20 million in the project to help deliver long-term value for the region’s growing economy. The project is being managed by the COHA Group and the construction of the stadium is being completed by Hutchinson Builders. The stadium will be known by both its gazetted name, Springfield Central Stadium, and Brighton Homes Arena.

A road treatment being trialled in Ipswich has the potential to reduce dust and maintenance costs for suitable gravel roads, while also potentially providing a cost-effective way to create more reliable local road infrastructure. The new low-cost technique had been applied to Hodgsons Road at Walloon to test and demonstrate its suitability for local roads. The approach is to simply bitumen seal the existing gravel pavement, without altering the pavement depth or road alignment. If successful, it will provide a low-cost, sealed surface to a gravel road that would otherwise not meet the criteria ROAD TRIAL COULD BRING BIG BENEFITS TO RURAL AREAS

for the full expense of designing and constructing a sealed road. It also reduces the gravel road maintenance cost on roads it is applied to. There are potentially many benefits to the road treatment method. It is good for the environment as gravel roads lose about 10mm to 15mm per year under traffic. The bitumen seal protects against this loss of valuable pavement material and reduces the dust nuisance to local residences.

This includes a large disability accessible bridge, a nature-based playground, open grass areas, three shade shelters, DENMARK HILL’S NATURAL BEAUTY MAJOR UPGRADE BRINGS VISITORS BACK TO

The site has a strong connection to Traditional Owners and part of the extensive construction project had involved creating cultural totem landscape poles. One of the site’s uses was as a high location where Traditional Owners could communicate via smoke signals internally and with others seeking permission to travel through their homelands. The totem-style sculpture recognises the connection and importance of this site to Traditional Owners and will be painted in colours reflective of council’s Indigenous Signage Manual.
